Looking back on 2024, we want to share a story that shows exactly what your support makes possible for families in our community — and why your continued generosity matters. 

Late last year, “Kate” and her young son found themselves in crisis. After losing her job, Kate could no longer keep up with her rent, and the two were forced to leave their apartment. 

With nowhere else to go, they moved in with her sister — but everyone knew it was only a short-term solution. 

That’s when Kate called the CAP Helpline, and because supporters like you help make CAP possible, she was quickly connected to our Shelter Diversion program. With the help of a Case Manager, she set goals, mapped out a plan, and got the support she needed to move forward. 

While caring for her son and working to rebuild her income, Kate also enrolled in classes to become a Surgical Technician, determined to create long-term stability for her family.  

In her own words, Kate shared:

“I have now finished the semester with a 3.0 GPA and got B’s in both of my classes. I have $700 saved for rent and I’ll have enough to pay by the 1st. I can’t wait to be able to donate to help others who are in the same situation as me. 

Thank you again!”

Today, because of her hard work — and because your support made early intervention possible — Kate and her son are stably housed and already dreaming about how they can give back.
