Summer is a season many of us look forward to. Longer days, backyard gatherings, vacations, and time spent outdoors.

But for our neighbors experiencing unsheltered homelessness, summer can be one of the most dangerous times of the year.

When temperatures climb, people living unsheltered face serious health risks from prolonged heat exposure, dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Without consistent access to water, shade, air conditioning, or safe places to rest, even a few days of extreme heat can become life-threatening.

Studies have found that people experiencing homelessness face dramatically higher rates of heat-related illness and death than the general population. The good news? You can help. 

Turn Compassion into Action with Street Reach

Street Reach is a free mobile app that allows anyone in Greater Cincinnati to quickly connect people experiencing homelessness with trained outreach workers.

When you see someone who may be living unsheltered, simply open the app and submit a report with a location and brief description. You don’t need to engage with the person/persons — just submit a report quickly and discreetly. 

The information is sent directly to our Central Access Point Helpline, which coordinates with Street Outreach teams who can check on that individual, offer assistance, connect them to shelter and services, and help begin the journey toward stable housing. 

Outreach teams work tirelessly throughout the year, but they can’t be everywhere at once. That’s where you come in.

A few taps on your phone could help someone find relief from dangerous heat, access critical resources, or take the first step toward permanent housing.
